Ode to the Hardware Removed from My Ankle

Thanks for bein’ there-
just hangin’ around
keepin’ my fibula from fallin’
on the ground.

Seven little screws
driven into that bone
keepin’ the plate attached
so I could walk alone.

The bones knitted nicely-
thank you very much-
but the two-inch screws
got to be oh, such
a royal pain
I had them all removed
by surgery again.

Now I keep them in my office
hermetically sealed
and show them off to guests
so all will be revealed.
