An interesting submission from the Unknown Cartoonist this month, once again demonstrating both his talent for drawing and his ability to tease us with ambiguity. Clearly, he is operating on a wavelength the rest of us can only guess at. We generally agree he is a genius, which disqualifies any of us here at the Foolish Times from interpreting any of his works. Yet still we try. Is the Unknown Cartoonist a reader of the Roman philosopher Boethius? The reason we ask is that the fifth panel seems to suggest the futility of striving and the transitory nature of earthly accomplishment. Read the rest of this article »

Well, it’s time to reveal the truth:
the FoolishTimes party on August 19, 2007 was actually just an elaborate trap to catch the Unknown Cartoonist. We thought we could draw him out and learn his secret identity. Our strategy was to startle him into revealing himself by asking every single person at the party, “Thought you could outsmart us, eh?” But every single person just looked at us, raised an eyebrow, and called us a name, and pretty soon we had to admit we had failed. Still no information on the talented, mysterious, and elusive Unknown Cartoonist. We had a tip about a guy in Café Noir, but when we investigated it turned out to be just your garden-variety doodler, nowhere near as talented as UC.
